Akoya Cultured Pearl Strand
One row of matched round Akoya pearls on silk, closed by a small gold clasp: the pearl necklace made repeatable by Mikimoto's own invention.
danger
A round Akoya pearl gripped by curved gold fangs, horns or claws, so the most polite gem in the case looks ready to bite.
Curved gold fangs grip a round Akoya pearl in TASAKI's danger, so the most decorous gem in the case looks ready to bite; Thakoon Panichgul drew on carnivorous plants, scorpion skeletons and shark jaws. The pearl it subverts is the one Mikimoto put within reach: after Kokichi Mikimoto's first cultured pearl of 1893, the matched strand on silk moved from royal treasuries to a counter in Ginza. Mikimoto still grades its Akoya cultured pearl strands by size and lustre. Lift danger's fangs away and a plain pearl stud remains.
