Pomellato's younger sister speaks in grams, not carats: one-gram gold animals on a cotton cord, grains and pebbles of gold to thread one at a time. Its pictures come from the shore of Mauritius, home of the extinct bird it is named for, and it has worked with WWF since it opened in Milan in 1994.
