Serpenti

Nudo Classic ring: a square faceted garnet in a white-gold collet on a thin rose-gold band, on a pale grey ground.

Pomellato

Nudo

A square cushion of coloured stone, faceted across its domed top, sits bare on a thin rose-gold shank with no claws, its collet hidden underneath so the colour seems to float.

Serpenti is a creature, Nudo a stone. Bulgari's snake has wound round wrists since a 1948 bracelet-watch built on the flexible Tubogas coil, taking on bright enamel in the 1960s and now the hexagonal scales of Serpenti Viper, from plain rose gold to full pavé. Pomellato's Nudo, from 2001, strips a ring almost bare: a square faceted cushion of garnet, peridot or tourmaline sits on a thin rose-gold shank with no visible claws, its collet hidden underneath, so the colour seems to float above the finger.
