Pain de Sucre

A tall cabochon cut in the shape of a sugarloaf, clipped onto a gold ring so the stone can be changed at will.

Nudo Classic ring: a square faceted garnet in a white-gold collet on a thin rose-gold band, on a pale grey ground.

Nudo

A square cushion of coloured stone, faceted across its domed top, sits bare on a thin rose-gold shank with no claws, its collet hidden underneath so the colour seems to float.

Colour is the subject of both rings, a single stone raised high on the finger. Pomellato's Nudo, from 2001, sets a square cushion of coloured stone, faceted across its dome, on a thin rose-gold shank with no claws, the collet hidden below; a Classic takes the Milan workshop about four days. FRED's Pain de Sucre, from 2013, is a tall polished sugarloaf that clicks into its gold mount and can be swapped. Nudo fixes one colour; Pain de Sucre lets the wearer change it.
