The quatrefoil and the flower

Hortensia or Fleurette

Chaumet · Van Cleef & Arpels

Hortensia

Chaumet

Hortensia

Hydrangea florets gathered into pompoms, garlands and posies, the flower repeated in gold petals, pink opal and pavé.

Fleurette

Van Cleef & Arpels

Fleurette

Seven round diamonds gathered into one small stylised flower, a corolla of stones with almost no metal showing.

Hortensia arrived in autumn 2013 as a high-jewelry collection, twenty-four pieces of hydrangea florets in pink opal, sapphire, ruby and angel-skin coral. Fleurette has no launch of that kind; its corolla of seven diamonds drifts through Van Cleef & Arpels jewels from the 1920s before becoming a line around 2000. Chaumet's flower is plural and coloured, clustered into pompoms. Its neighbour across the square is singular, white and small enough to vanish into the stones.
