Grain de Café

The coffee bean, full and grooved down its middle, cast in gold and gathered into clusters.

Fleurette

Van Cleef & Arpels

Fleurette

Seven round diamonds gathered into one small stylised flower, a corolla of stones with almost no metal showing.

Almost no metal shows on a Fleurette: seven round diamonds sit together as one small flower, a corolla Van Cleef & Arpels has used in some form since the 1920s and gave its own collection around 2000. Grain de Café asks the opposite of gold. Jeanne Toussaint's 1938 coffee bean for Cartier is solid, rounded and grooved, cast to be felt in the hand, and its modern clusters edge the two-tone beans with diamonds rather than building from them.
