Hortensia

Hydrangea florets gathered into pompoms, garlands and posies, the flower repeated in gold petals, pink opal and pavé.

Chaumet's founder Marie-Étienne Nitot worked for Napoleon and Joséphine, so the Empress's garden at Malmaison was a natural source when Claire Dévé-Rakoff chose the hydrangea for high jewelry in autumn 2013: Hortensia florets massed into pompoms of pink opal, angel-skin coral, rubies and sapphires. Boucheron's Plume de Paon is a nineteenth-century idea, dated to 1860 and credited to Frédéric Boucheron and Paul Legrand, its barbs in pavé and its eye a single larger diamond.
