The quatrefoil and the flower

Fleurette or Calla

Fleurette

Van Cleef & Arpels

Fleurette

Seven round diamonds gathered into one small stylised flower, a corolla of stones with almost no metal showing.

Calla

One smooth cone, furled like a calla lily, hung alone on a necklace whose clasp disappears.

Diamonds do almost all the work in a Fleurette: seven of them gathered into a tiny corolla with barely any metal visible, a flower Van Cleef & Arpels has set since the 1920s and collected into its own line around 2000. Calla reverses the balance, metal and nothing else until the gem-set versions of 2018. Vhernier shapes rose or white gold, or ebony, into one smooth cone furled like a lily.
