Zip

A working zip fastener in gold and stones: pull the tassel and the necklace closes up into a bracelet.

Scale sets these apart before anything else. Zip is high jewelry the length of a necklace, a working fastener of gold, diamonds, rubies or sapphires that slides closed to become a bracelet, and it took Van Cleef & Arpels from 1938 to 1950 to make. Happy Hearts works at the size of a pendant or a stud: an open gold heart where one diamond rolls freely, set beside a solid heart of mother-of-pearl, onyx or red stone. Chopard joined Caroline Scheufele's favourite talisman to its loose diamonds in 2009.
