Pain de Sucre or Freccia

Pain de Sucre

FRED

Pain de Sucre

A tall cabochon cut in the shape of a sugarloaf, clipped onto a gold ring so the stone can be changed at will.

Freccia

An arrowhead of carved rock crystal domed over thin slices of coloured stone, so the colour seems to float deep inside a lens, set in smooth polished gold.

A dome of stone tops each ring, built in very different ways. FRED's Pain de Sucre, from 2013, is one tall cabochon cut like a sugarloaf, in topaz, rose quartz, amethyst or turquoise, that clicks into its gold mount and can be swapped; its colours recall the South American light the Argentine-born Fred Samuel remembered. Vhernier's Freccia layers its colour instead: thin slices of opal or black jade sit under an arrowhead of carved rock crystal, so the colour seems to float inside a lens.
