Raindance

Round diamonds of unequal sizes, each in its own collet, scattered across open platinum bands like raindrops landing on a window.

Sabbia ring: a rounded dome covered in white and brown diamonds of different sizes, on a rose-gold band, on a pale grey ground.

Sabbia

Diamonds of mixed sizes, cuts and colours (white, brown, black) set unevenly over a domed surface, so the pavé glitters like sand under sun or moonlight.

Tidy rows are what both refuse, by opposite routes. Pomellato's Sabbia, Italian for sand, packs white, brown and black diamonds of mixed sizes and cuts over a dome, hand-set at different heights so the surface shifts like a beach in low sun. Raindance, from Boodles in 2000, spreads its round diamonds thin: unequal stones, each in its own collet, scattered across open platinum bands. The Milan version is warm and dense in rose gold, the London one cool and open, and both took patient hands to look this unplanned.
