Raindance

Round diamonds of unequal sizes, each in its own collet, scattered across open platinum bands like raindrops landing on a window.

Pair of Gatsby medium hoop earrings in yellow gold, each a thin oval lined with pavé diamonds, on a pale grey ground.

Gatsby

A line of pavé drawn as a single straight stroke (a bar on a chain, a band, a hoop), the geometry of a 1920s diamond bracelet pared to one gesture.

Messika's Gatsby lays pavé down as a single ruled stroke: a bar on a chain, a slim band, a hoop in one of three sizes, its geometry taken from 1920s diamond bracelets and its name from the hero of Fitzgerald's 1925 novel. Raindance refuses the straight line. At Boodles in 2000, Rebecca Hawkins placed round diamonds of unequal sizes in separate collets and kept rearranging them over the platinum until the scatter looked random and balanced at once, like rain arriving on glass.
