Plume de Paon

A peacock feather drawn barb by barb in pavé, its eye marked by a single larger diamond, curling round the finger or falling from a chain.

Van Cleef & Arpels

Alhambra

A four-leaf clover cut from stone and ringed with a double row of gold beads, repeated along a chain like a string of charms.

The Alhambra clover, drawn in 1968, is a closed shape: four leaves cut from mother-of-pearl, onyx, malachite or carnelian, each held in a double row of gold beads and repeated along a chain. Van Cleef & Arpels built a whole grammar on that repetition. Boucheron's Plume de Paon, dated to 1860, is open and single, a feather drawn barb by barb in diamonds, its eye a larger stone, curling round a finger rather than lining up.
