Bee de Chaumet

The bee reduced to the cell it builds: a gold hexagon, repeated side by side into bands, hoops and pavé, with the insect itself landing only on the larger pieces.

Butterfly

The butterfly drawn in diamonds, from a pavé outline with an open centre to full wings of pear-shape and marquise stones.

Pear-shape and marquise diamonds become the wings of the Graff butterfly, or a line of pavé traces an open outline with a second tiny butterfly inside. Bee de Chaumet keeps the insect mostly offstage and works from its architecture, the hexagon of the comb, repeated into stacking gold bands and hoops since 2011. The butterfly is a picture of the animal. The honeycomb is a picture of its work, with Napoleon's emblem landing on top only now and then.
