Margherita

A daisy, margherita in Italian, set in diamonds and named for the queen whose name it shares.

Alhambra

Van Cleef & Arpels

Alhambra

A four-leaf clover cut from stone and ringed with a double row of gold beads, repeated along a chain like a string of charms.

The Alhambra is barely a plant any more. Van Cleef & Arpels drew its four-leaf clover in 1968 as a hard-stone emblem inside a beaded border, then repeated it along chains in onyx, malachite, carnelian and mother-of-pearl. Damiani's Margherita is still recognisably a daisy, set in diamonds and white gold and tied to the jewel Enrico Grassi Damiani made for Margherita of Savoy in the 1920s. A Paris sign of luck sits beside a Valenza portrait of a flower.
