Piaget

Piaget Sunlight

The sun as a disc of gold rays, each segment engraved, brushed or polished, around a halo of diamonds.

Frivole

Van Cleef & Arpels

Frivole

A flower of heart-shaped petals in gold polished to a mirror, so smooth the bare metal throws light like a stone.

On Piaget Sunlight, polish is one finish among several: each gold ray is engraved, brushed or mirrored, so the disc flickers around its diamond halo. Van Cleef & Arpels commits Frivole entirely to the mirror, finishing its heart-shaped petals by hand with a polish the house has used since the 1920s, on a collection launched in 2003. Contrast drives Piaget's sun. Frivole's petals rely on a single, perfect surface.
