Macri

Buccellati

Macri

Yellow and white gold engraved with thousands of hair-fine parallel rigato lines that catch light like silk moiré, starred with diamonds set in tiny rosettes.

Fantina bangle: an open rose-gold loop with a pavé-set inner edge and a diamond-tipped end, on a pale grey ground.

Pomellato

Fantina

Seamless open ellipses of rose or white gold, edged with pavé and tapering to points, drawn from the clean lines of the riding world.

Fantina's gold is left smooth, with diamonds lining one edge. Macri's is engraved all over, with diamonds scattered across it in star-shaped settings. Pomellato's open loop, from 2020, is a modern line drawn from the riding world; Buccellati's rigato, cut by hand into thousands of parallel strokes, belongs to a goldsmithing tradition the family has kept for generations. Two Milan houses, two opposite ideas of what a gold surface is for.
