Tubogas or Fantina
Bulgari · Pomellato
Tubogas
A band of gold wound tightly round itself like the flexible pipe of a gas line, tubo gas, so it springs round the wrist or neck without a hinge.
Fantina
Seamless open ellipses of rose or white gold, edged with pavé and tapering to points, drawn from the clean lines of the riding world.
Seamlessness, in Rome, came from winding. Tubogas, first made in 1941, is a gold band coiled tight enough to spring round the wrist with nothing to open or close. In Milan in 2020, Pomellato reached it by concealment: Fantina hides every clasp and hinge, so its open bangle of rose or white gold reads as one poured line, paved along the edge and tapering to points. The older piece borrows from the plumbing of a gas line, the newer one from the riding world.
