The gold band

Macri or Abbraccio

Buccellati · Vhernier

Macri

Buccellati

Macri

Yellow and white gold engraved with thousands of hair-fine parallel rigato lines that catch light like silk moiré, starred with diamonds set in tiny rosettes.

Abbraccio

Vhernier

Abbraccio

A ring named for an embrace, one of the first shapes Vhernier made, offered in plain gold or entirely paved with diamonds held by two prongs each.

Rigato engraving is the whole idea of Macri: Buccellati's hand-cut parallel lines, dense as moiré, cover yellow and white gold and frame diamonds in tiny star-shaped settings. Vhernier's Abbraccio asks the metal to do something else, to read as smooth volume. One of the rings from the house's early Valenza years, it comes in plain rose or white gold or in a skin of 572 diamonds held by two prongs each.
