Etincelle de Cartier

A band about a millimetre and a half wide, paved with small diamonds and carrying a larger stone in the same line, so the ring reads as one spark.

Le Cube Diamant open ring in yellow gold: two small open cubes, each holding a diamond, facing each other, on a white ground.

Le Cube Diamant

A round diamond held inside an open gold cube, the circle set against the square.

Line and volume. Etincelle de Cartier is little more than a line, a band about a millimetre and a half wide, paved and carrying its larger stone in the same row, so the whole reads as one spark. Le Cube Diamant is a volume, an open gold cube that Jean Dinh Van built around a round diamond in 1971, adding depth where Cartier takes it away. Both are restrained; they simply measure restraint in different dimensions.
