Etincelle de Cartier

A band about a millimetre and a half wide, paved with small diamonds and carrying a larger stone in the same line, so the ring reads as one spark.

Serti sur Vide ring in white gold: two open bands joined by a short bar, with a pear-cut diamond held above them, on a light grey ground.

Serti sur Vide

A diamond held on a hidden bar so it seems to hover above the finger or the ear, with nothing visible beneath it.

Within the band, or above it: the two rings place their diamond differently. Etincelle de Cartier sets its larger stone in the same row as a narrow pavé band, so ring and stone read as a single flash, in gold or platinum. Serti sur Vide, launched by Repossi in 2014, lifts the diamond off the band altogether on a concealed bar, so it seems to hover with nothing visible below. Continuity in the Cartier ring; suspension in the Repossi, whose name means setting on emptiness.
