Trinity

Three rings of yellow, rose and white gold, linked so that they roll over one another on the finger.

Between the Finger

Van Cleef & Arpels

Between the Finger

An open ring that lies across two fingers, with a motif at each end turned toward the other.

Trinity closes three rings into a single bundle; Between the Finger opens one ring wide enough to span two fingers. Louis Cartier's design of 1924 relies on the three golds rolling over one another, a bond made of movement. Van Cleef & Arpels began its open form in 1972 with a Two Flowers ring, setting a motif at each end of the band and turning them toward each other, a meeting rather than a knot. Since then clovers and butterfly wings have taken the two ends.
