Pairs of round diamonds held in place by small gold Xs, like cross-stitches, so the band reads as stones threaded together with metal.

Between the Finger

An open ring that lies across two fingers, with a motif at each end turned toward the other.

Jean Schlumberger came from an Alsatian textile family, and in 1959 he gave Tiffany a wedding ring stitched like cloth: round diamonds set in pairs, each pair held by a small gold X taken from cross-stitch. Van Cleef & Arpels came at joining from another angle in 1972 with an open ring that lies across two fingers, a flower at each end turned toward the other. Sixteen Stone closes the circle with stitches. Between the Finger leaves it open, so two motifs face each other across a gap.
