Trinity

Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Sixteen Stone

Pairs of round diamonds held in place by small gold Xs, like cross-stitches, so the band reads as stones threaded together with metal.

Three bands rolling over one another, and a band stitched together with gold crosses: two ways of drawing a bond on the finger. Louis Cartier's Trinity of 1924 uses metal alone, yellow, rose and white gold interlaced. Jean Schlumberger, from an Alsatian textile family, designed Sixteen Stone for Tiffany as a wedding ring in 1959, setting diamonds in pairs and holding them with small gold Xs borrowed from needlework. Cartier links. Schlumberger sews.
