Melody of Colours

Colour massed by the hundred: small amethysts, rubies, pink sapphires and tsavorites crowded over full gold forms until the surface reads as one tone.

Winston Cluster

Pear, marquise and round diamonds set at different angles on a nearly invisible platinum frame, so the stones, not the metal, draw the shape.

Fawaz Gruosi and Harry Winston both treated metal as something to hide, though for very different pictures. In the Winston Cluster, white pear, marquise and round diamonds stand at angles on a slender platinum frame, a frosted holly wreath held together almost by nothing. Melody of Colours buries its gold under hundreds of small coloured stones, amethyst, ruby, pink sapphire, tsavorite, packed so tightly that the jewel reads as a single hue. Winston's version looks cut from ice. Gruosi's looks poured from one colour.
