Lucky Animals
Small animal clips built from hard-stone marquetry, malachite, tiger's eye, onyx and mother-of-pearl, each inside a contour of gold beads.
Two small bestiaries that grow a few creatures at a time. Van Cleef & Arpels started Lucky Animals with nine in 2017 and keeps adding, a teddy bear, a frog, each a marquetry of malachite, tiger's eye or mother-of-pearl framed in gold beads, with an onyx eye. DoDo Nature's animals, made since 1994, are flat charms in 9kt gold and enamel, octopus to giraffe, threaded one by one on a coloured cord. Van Cleef's clips are cabinet pieces in miniature; DoDo's gather like stamps in an album.
