Lucky Animals

Small animal clips built from hard-stone marquetry, malachite, tiger's eye, onyx and mother-of-pearl, each inside a contour of gold beads.

Van Cleef & Arpels builds its Lucky Animals from cut stone: malachite, tiger's eye, onyx and mother-of-pearl fitted together in marquetry, each ringed by gold beads and given an onyx eye. The line arrived in 2017 with nine animals, recalling the playful clips of La Boutique in the 1950s. Boucheron's Animaux de Collection are modelled rather than inlaid, in pavé and sculpted gold, and they carry names: Wladimir the cat, Hopi the hummingbird. Two Vendôme houses, a few doors apart, with a flat bestiary and a round one.
