The gold band

Marrakech or Perlée

Marrakech

Marrakech

Fine 18k gold wire wound into tight springy coils, gathered into strands that flex and drape against the wrist and throat like fabric.

Perlée

Van Cleef & Arpels

Perlée

The house's oldest ornament, the polished gold bead, made into the whole jewel: bangles, rings and hoops lined with rows of tiny golden spheres.

Van Cleef & Arpels turned the polished gold bead, an edging in its work since the 1920s, into Perlée in 2008, lining bangles, rings and hoops with rows of small spheres. Marrakech repeats a coil instead of a sphere: thin yellow gold wire wound by hand into springs and gathered into strands, so Marco Bicego's piece flexes where a Perlée bangle holds its shape.
