Mellerio

Giardino

A four-petalled flower in openwork gold with a lace edge, set with one stone at its heart, taken from the gardens of Isola Madre on Lake Maggiore.

Alhambra

Van Cleef & Arpels

Alhambra

A four-leaf clover cut from stone and ringed with a double row of gold beads, repeated along a chain like a string of charms.

Four lobes, an outline of beads or lace, and a colour at the centre: Giardino and Alhambra are closer than most pairs in this family. Van Cleef & Arpels drew its clover in 1968 and filled it edge to edge with hard stone inside a beaded gold border. Laure-Isabelle Mellerio leaves Giardino's four petals as openwork with a lace edge and sets a single stone at the heart, after the garden of Isola Madre. Fill the frame and you have the clover; open it and you have Giardino.
