Eight matched stones ring a single round brilliant like petals around a seed head, laid out with a compass for strict symmetry.

Giardino

A four-petalled flower in openwork gold with a lace edge, set with one stone at its heart, taken from the gardens of Isola Madre on Lake Maggiore.

Four petals in Paris, eight stones in New York. Mellerio's Giardino is an openwork flower with a lace edge and one stone at its heart, from Isola Madre's island garden; pink sapphire, ruby and tsavorite stand for its flowers, a few blue sapphires for the lake. Harry Winston's Sunflower, from 1950, rings a round brilliant with eight matched stones laid out by compass, mostly diamonds in platinum. Giardino remembers a place. The Sunflower remembers nothing but its own proportions.
