M/G TASAKI at TASAKI

The story

TASAKI's chief executive Toshikazu Tajima found the London designer Melanie Georgacopoulos through her pieces at Dover Street Market, and her first line for the house, Sliced, was shown in Tokyo in December 2012. Cutting a pearl was close to sacrilege in the trade; she polished the cut face so its growth rings show like those of a felled tree. Later families set V-cut pearls against mirror gold, wrap them in gold arcs and pair halved pearls with gold spheres.

M/G TASAKI slices the round pearl open, so the banded inside that the perfect strand hides becomes the ornament.
