Africa

Slightly lopsided beads of 18k yellow gold, each scored by hand with a burin into thousands of fine lines, strung in graduated rows so the satin surface glows rather than shines.

Africa at Marco Bicego

The story

Africa is the house's showcase for bulino millerighe, the old hand-engraving technique in which a burin cuts countless parallel lines into gold until it feels like silk. The beads are kept irregular on purpose, a mark of the hand. The line has grown into Africa Gemstones, with pearls and coloured stones between the beads, and Africa Alta, where the beads are paved with diamonds.
