Boodles

Blossom

Small cherry blossoms in white, rose or yellow gold, their petals beaded with diamonds like dew on a spring morning.

Bouton d'or

Van Cleef & Arpels

Bouton d'or

Little discs of gold, each with a stone at its centre, massed in rows and rings like the head of a buttercup.

Sequins on 1930s evening dresses lie behind Bouton d'or. In 1936 Van Cleef & Arpels set small yellow gold discs, each with a stone in the middle, and in 2016 it revived them, massed in rows and rings like a buttercup head, with chrysoprase, onyx, carnelian, mother-of-pearl or diamonds. Boodles' Blossom, new the same year, is more literal, the cherry flower itself, its petals in three golds and its diamonds placed like drops of rain.
