Bouton d'or

Little discs of gold, each with a stone at its centre, massed in rows and rings like the head of a buttercup.

Polished gold discs, each centred on a stone, are the whole vocabulary of Bouton d'or. Van Cleef & Arpels first used them in 1936, close kin to the sequins of the period, and in 2016 massed them into buttercup heads with onyx, carnelian, chrysoprase or diamonds. Hair ornaments and brooches carried Boucheron's first peacock feathers, which the house dates to 1860. Today the Plume de Paon is pavé throughout and belongs to the Nature Triomphante family, beside Lierre de Paris.
