Boule

The ball as the jewel: light gold spheres, smooth or paved edge to edge with stones, swollen into dome rings, drop earrings and cuffs.

Pair of Gatsby medium hoop earrings in yellow gold, each a thin oval lined with pavé diamonds, on a pale grey ground.

Gatsby

A line of pavé drawn as a single straight stroke (a bar on a chain, a band, a hoop), the geometry of a 1920s diamond bracelet pared to one gesture.

The sphere and the line. De Grisogono's Boule took gold balls, plain or paved edge to edge with diamonds, and swelled them into dome rings, drop earrings and chain cuffs, generous volumes the Geneva house linked to the red carpet. Gatsby works in one dimension: a narrow stroke of pavé, as bar, band or hoop, made for stacking. Messika named it for Fitzgerald's hero and the 1920s women who asked for ease of movement, so Gatsby lies flat to the skin where Boule stands proud of it.
