The gold band

Macri or Allegra

Buccellati · de Grisogono

Macri

Buccellati

Macri

Yellow and white gold engraved with thousands of hair-fine parallel rigato lines that catch light like silk moiré, starred with diamonds set in tiny rosettes.

Allegra

de Grisogono

Allegra

Thin rings spiralled together so they look randomly stacked: one jewel that reads as many, wound around each other.

Macri and Allegra are both named for daughters. Gianmaria Buccellati joined the first syllables of Maria Cristina's names into Macri; Fawaz Gruosi gave Allegra the name of his first-born in 2003. The jewels inherit different temperaments. Macri lies flat and luminous, its yellow and white gold cut with hair-fine rigato lines and starred with small diamonds. Allegra coils, thin rings twisted round one another to look like a casual stack. Buccellati still makes its line, and de Grisogono's is now historical.
