The gold band

Tubogas or Allegra

Bulgari · de Grisogono

Tubogas

Bulgari

Tubogas

A band of gold wound tightly round itself like the flexible pipe of a gas line, tubo gas, so it springs round the wrist or neck without a hinge.

Allegra

de Grisogono

Allegra

Thin rings spiralled together so they look randomly stacked: one jewel that reads as many, wound around each other.

Spirals, both, though they turn for different reasons. The Tubogas coil, a Roman idea of 1941, is a single band of gold wound tight so it can flex round a wrist or a throat without a hinge. Allegra, which Fawaz Gruosi named in 2003 after his first-born daughter, loops several thin rings round one another so one jewel looks like a loose stack, a figure for two lives entwined. Bulgari brought its coil back in 2024, while de Grisogono's line has been historical since the house's bankruptcy in 2020.
