The gold band

Tulle or Abbraccio

Buccellati · Vhernier

Tulle

Buccellati

Tulle

A half-millimetre sheet of gold pierced by hand into hundreds of minute hexagonal cells, so the metal reads like net lace.

Abbraccio

Vhernier

Abbraccio

A ring named for an embrace, one of the first shapes Vhernier made, offered in plain gold or entirely paved with diamonds held by two prongs each.

Vhernier built its name in Valenza on smooth, swelling volumes of rose or white gold, and Abbraccio, one of its first rings, is made plain or wholly paved with 572 diamonds on two prongs each. Tulle comes from the opposite school, where perforation is everything: a gold plate pierced into hundreds of hexagonal cells after Venetian needle lace, the technique Mario Buccellati developed in the 1920s and still used for bands such as Nuovo Tulle.
