Tulle

Buccellati

Tulle

A half-millimetre sheet of gold pierced by hand into hundreds of minute hexagonal cells, so the metal reads like net lace.

Classic Cable bracelet in sterling silver, 5 mm, its twisted cuff ending in 14k yellow gold caps set with amethyst, on a white ground.

The Cable Collection

Strands of metal twisted into a helix and bent into an open cuff, its two ends capped with gold and a coloured stone.

Buccellati's Tulle is lace in gold; Yurman's Cable is rope. The Milanese technique, developed in the 1920s from Venetian needle lace, pierces a thin plate into hundreds of hexagons, close to a month of sawing for a single piece. Cable twists strands into a helix, a form David Yurman arrived at in 1982 when he gave a turn to the parallel wires of an earlier bracelet. Lace opens the metal up; rope pulls it tight.
