Parentesi

A bracket-shaped gold link, repeated and locked into necklaces and bracelets like the joints between Roman paving stones.

Catene ring: large polished rose-gold gourmette links mounted on a solid band, on a pale grey ground.

Pomellato

Catene

The plump gourmette link Pomellato has made since its first season, blown up and softened until three or four articulated links become the whole ring.

Italy has two chain traditions here, Roman and Milanese. Pino Rabolini founded Pomellato in 1967 on gourmette links and long daytime sautoirs, and in 2021 Vincenzo Castaldo gave that link a line of its own, Catene, swelling it until a few articulated links make a ring. Gianni Bulgari's Parentesi, from 1982, invented its link from scratch, a bracket sign turned into a modular element. Plump curves in Milan, interlocking joints in Rome: the two feel nothing alike in the hand.
