Parentesi

Bulgari

Parentesi

A bracket-shaped gold link, repeated and locked into necklaces and bracelets like the joints between Roman paving stones.

Skinny rivière bracelet in white gold: a thin flexible line of diamonds forming a bangle, with a fine safety chain, on a pale grey ground.

Skinny

A rivière of diamonds made elastic: tiny springs between the settings let the line twist, stretch over the hand and close back round the wrist.

Articulation is handled in opposite ways. Parentesi, which Gianni Bulgari built from a bracket sign in 1982, gets its movement from rigid links locked into one another, made in gold alone or with steel and diamonds. Skinny, developed by Valérie Messika in 2009, gets it from nano springs hidden between diamond settings, so the line twists, stretches over the hand and pulls back. Both chains bend, and only the Roman one lets you see how.
