The chain as the piece

Skinny or Catene

Messika

Skinny

A rivière of diamonds made elastic: tiny springs between the settings let the line twist, stretch over the hand and close back round the wrist.

Catene ring: large polished rose-gold gourmette links mounted on a solid band, on a pale grey ground.

Pomellato

Catene

The plump gourmette link Pomellato has made since its first season, blown up and softened until three or four articulated links become the whole ring.

In 2009 Valérie Messika made the diamond rivière, once an evening piece, elastic enough for daytime by threading it on nano springs; she called it Skinny. In 2021 Vincenzo Castaldo took the gourmette chain that Pomellato had made since its founding in 1967 and blew it up into Catene, rings of three or four plump links, with diamonds added two years later. Each designer took a classic and changed its temperament: the rivière turned supple, the gourmette turned into sculpture.
