Cartier Destinée

A solitaire circled by a halo of small diamonds set so lightly that they seem to float free of the metal.

Le Cube Diamant

A round diamond held inside an open gold cube, the circle set against the square.

A halo draws a circle round the centre stone; Le Cube Diamant draws a square. Cartier's Destinée surrounds its diamond with small stones set so lightly they seem released from the metal, a bridal ring in platinum or gold whose launch year the house does not publish. Jean Dinh Van, in 1971, used gold edges and open space instead, placing a round diamond within a cube so the frame reads as clearly as the stone. Destinée multiplies light. The cube contains it.
