Cartier Destinée

A solitaire circled by a halo of small diamonds set so lightly that they seem to float free of the metal.

Piaget Solstice

Cocktail rings built like drinks: a large coloured centre stone dressed with gem garnish that opens away so the stone can be worn alone.

A surround can say what a ring is for. Cartier's Destinée uses a halo of small diamonds set so lightly that they seem to float, round a diamond or an oval emerald, in the vocabulary of an engagement. Piaget's Solstice, from 2022, uses garnish: pink sapphires, emeralds, rough diamonds and carved peridot imagined as the trimmings of a cocktail, and built to open away. Destinée's halo stays put. Solstice's comes off.
