Cartier Destinée

A solitaire circled by a halo of small diamonds set so lightly that they seem to float free of the metal.

Serti sur Vide ring in white gold: two open bands joined by a short bar, with a pear-cut diamond held above them, on a light grey ground.

Serti sur Vide

A diamond held on a hidden bar so it seems to hover above the finger or the ear, with nothing visible beneath it.

In Cartier's Destinée it is the halo that floats, small diamonds set so lightly round the centre stone that they seem released from the metal. In Repossi's Serti sur Vide it is the stone itself, carried on a hidden bar above the skin since 2014. Cartier keeps a traditional bridal architecture and lightens it. Gaia Repossi, working from her father's idea, takes the architecture out of sight altogether, so that nothing at all appears to hold the diamond.
