Two gold half-rings that hook into each other like handcuffs, so the clasp becomes the whole jewel.

A key turned over in the hand gave Jean Dinh Van the shape of Menottes in 1976: two half-rings that hook together, the hidden part of a clasp promoted to the centre. Écrou de Cartier, presented in 2017, threads a slim gold cable like a bolt and strings hexagonal nuts along it. Both are instruments of holding dressed in gold with no softening of shape, and both are small: the cuffs dangle from a cord, and the nuts sit on a bangle 3.5 mm wide.
