Force 10

A length of braided steel marine cable closed by a gold shackle, named after a storm on the Beaufort scale.

Fifty-one years separate them, and both are cables. Force 10, from 1966, is the literal kind: braided steel marine cable closed with a shackle of yellow gold. Écrou de Cartier, previewed in Paris in March 2017, makes its cable of gold, cuts a screw thread into it and strings hexagonal nuts along it, following the screw of LOVE and the nail of Juste un Clou. Neither disguises its source: the cable still reads as rigging, the threaded gold as a bolt.
