Solitaire 1895

One stone raised on four claws above a plain band, the house's barest answer to the engagement ring.

Serti sur Vide ring in white gold: two open bands joined by a short bar, with a pear-cut diamond held above them, on a light grey ground.

Serti sur Vide

A diamond held on a hidden bar so it seems to hover above the finger or the ear, with nothing visible beneath it.

Remove the claws and the solitaire changes character. Cartier keeps them in Solitaire 1895, four of them holding a single stone above a plain band of platinum or gold, the house's most elementary ring. Repossi's Serti sur Vide, launched in 2014, hides its support on a concealed bar so the diamond appears to hover over the finger with nothing visible beneath. The house's president has said the idea came from Alberto Repossi before it passed to his daughter Gaia, who gave it form.
