Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Sixteen Stone

Pairs of round diamonds held in place by small gold Xs, like cross-stitches, so the band reads as stones threaded together with metal.

The letter X does the joining in these two wedding rings. Schlumberger took it from the cross-stitch for Tiffany's Sixteen Stone in 1959, repeating small gold Xs to hold pairs of diamonds round the band. Chaumet drew a single, larger X in 1977 for the Liens d'Or ring, a ribbon crossed between two lines of gold, often chosen as a wedding band. Schlumberger multiplies the stitch across the whole circle; Liens states it once, as an emblem.
