Torsade de Chaumet

Ropes of gold and diamonds twisting freely round a straight line of stones, after the spiral frieze that climbs the Vendôme Column outside the house's windows.

Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Sixteen Stone

Pairs of round diamonds held in place by small gold Xs, like cross-stitches, so the band reads as stones threaded together with metal.

Gold behaves like thread in these two designs, binding stones into a line. On Sixteen Stone, Jean Schlumberger's wedding ring for Tiffany of 1959, it takes the form of small Xs, cross-stitches pinning diamonds in pairs. On Torsade de Chaumet, presented in 2021, it becomes ropes of white gold and diamonds twisting freely round a straight row of rubies, emeralds or sapphires, after the frieze that climbs the Vendôme Column. Needlework scale in New York, monumental scale in Paris.
